Howard Brown Health is a new construction project rooted in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago. At 91,000 sf, this 5-level project included street-level retail, pharmacy, lab, generous clinical space, underground parking, expansive rooftop terrace, and more.

Consolidating family care, dental services, behavioral health, administrative offices, and financial support are among the services provided at Howard Brown.

This multi-level medical facility with state-of-the-art technology also includes a comprehensive dental care center and medical office – doubling patient capacity.
New carpet throughout lobbies, luxury vinyl tile through corridors, and office spaces were part of the interior component. Sealed concrete on level 5 was delivered for event and future office space.

East Bank Club

James �ۿ۴�ý Co. completed an 8,000-square-foot expansion at the East Bank Club at 500 N. Kingsbury St. in Chicago, adding a 70-bike cycling studio and a members-only coworking space on a newly constructed mezzanine level.

The $6.9-million, 14-month project also included transformation of existing space under the mezzanine into a new free weight room; updates to the club’s cardio room; and construction of a new floating staircase leading to the mezzanine.

Gibsons Italia

McHugh completed the build out of this 3-story 15,000 sf flagship restaurant for the Gibsons Restaurant Group in the River Point building.

This dramatic restaurant space offers dining on all three levels along the Chicago River with an outdoor dining area that includes a retractable roof.

Views from the restaurant are east down the river and of the cityscape to the north and south of the restaurant. The restaurant features elegant millwork and stone finishes to complement the fine dining experience.

Chicago Bulls and Blackhawks Locker Rooms

Goodman Theatre

The facility includes the 830-seat main stage Albert Ivar Goodman theater; the 400-seat studio Owen Bruner Goodman theater (renovated from the former Selwyn Theatre); generous public areas; and rehearsal and administrative spaces. The centerpiece of the lobby area is an elliptical grand staircase with a skylight above. Much of the existing terra-cotta, limestone and masonry were carefully restored.

Linking the old buildings with the new was no small task. McHugh teams worked carefully to peel away and preserve portions of the Harris Theatre facade and attach them to the new facility. Plus, the almost 80-year-old structural steel frame of the Selwyn Theater had to be rehabilitated and tied onto the new reinforced-concrete structure. McHugh engineers also innovated a system to reduce vibrations and sound from the in the studio theater from the adjacent CTA elevated train tracks.

Civic Opera House

The 275,000 sq ft renovation of the historic Opera House more than doubled rehearsal hall and scenery handling space, created a state-of-the-art theater independent of base building power, HVAC, plumbing and fire protection. Front lobbies and auditorium upgrades included new seating, patron boxes, and a complete auditorium face-lift while keeping the original design. The addition included a three-story, 4,900 sq ft rehearsal hall addition built to match the size of the Opera House stage itself and two 2,500, two story rehearsal halls with dressing rooms, practice space and all other support areas. The construction was completed in three, 5-month phases allowing the facility to open for its seven-month opera season.

Stage 773

Crews reconfigured the existing theater space which now offers two 148-seat theaters – (one proscenium style, the other a thrust); an 80-seat black box; and a 70-seat cabaret. In the lobby, the original brick was exposed, and large openings were made to provide more space for patrons to mingle and visit the new, upgraded bar. A new mezzanine level provides for expanded office space to better serve the theater’s office/conference room needs. On the exterior, a full-height glass curtainwall was installed as well as new paint and signage.
